magazine entitled Print
Works! Produced using
high-quality paper and
ink finishes, the publi-
cation tells the story of
paper and print, showcas-
ing new techniques and
technologies for print
buyers and others who
influence the purchas-
ing of paper and who
are hungry for new ideas
and innovation for their
multimedia marketing
campaigns.
More than 30,000 chief
marketing officers at the
country's largest companies and ad agencies received a copy of
the inaugural issue. In addition, it will be hand-delivered to over
10,000 printers and end-users by the sales force of the leading
paper merchants and an NPTA-customized issue will be distrib-
uted at leading industry events. Merchant members sponsored
regional issues to feature their corporate brands and messages.
"NPTA has taken a proactive approach to uniting paper mer-
chants and their paper mill partners to enhance the information
and education available to our mutual customers on a national
level," said Don Clampitt, NPTA immediate past chairman and
CEO of Clampitt Paper Co.

Newspaper, Commercial Print Boost in
NYC Region
Advance Publications will install a Goss Magnum Com-
pact press in Staten Island, NY, a move that will add versatile,
short-run capability in combination with output capacity
approaching that of its existing double-width system. The
installation, expected to be completed by October, will make
Advance the first U.S.
user of the press.
The six full-col-
or print towers and one folder will accommodate a growing
volume of contract newspaper, commercial, and insert print-
ing, and also backup a double-width press used to print the
daily Staten Island Advance newspaper. "We looked at many
double-width, single-width, and digital options to support our
vision of a modern, multi-product print operation," said John
Giustiniani, production director. "Versatility, job-change speed,
print quality and simple, cost-effective operation make the Mag-
num Compact unique—and the right press to meet our needs.
We were particularly impressed by its configuration, which takes
advantage of the low 7'2" height of its towers —a feature that is
allowing us to add the capacity we need with only very minor
modifications to our existing building."
Goss Autoplate technology also factored in the decision in
favor of the new press, according to Giustiniani. "The ability to
go from job to job in two minutes or less with extremely low
waste and operator effort makes this press cost competitive with
digital printing at around 1,000 copies," he added. "And we will
achieve the quality, economy, and output of offset as the run
lengths go up from there."

A Canadian Label 1st
Pazazz has become the first label firm in the province of Quebec
to install the 17-inch, 10-color UV Mark Andy Performance Series
P5 press. This flexographic press is a servo-driven machine, opti-
mizing efficiency and driving extreme print productivity. "The per-
f o r m a n c e
of the Mark
Andy P5
will allow
us to reach
markets where the demands are ever increasing and the clients'
expectations are reaching epic levels," explained Shawn Werbitt,
president of Pazazz Labels.
An important benefit of the Perfomance Series P5 is the impact
on the environment, with less substrate waste and consumables
used. "We are always exploring ways to improve our productiv-
ity while at the same time reducing our waste. This new addition
will enable us to continue working on achieving those stan-
dards," Werbitt noted. Another production advantage is that the
press can print on a multitude of substrates, which allows Pazazz
to print on thin substrates up to a 14-pt. board.
