8 DECEMBER 2014 • INKJET'S AGE www.MyPRINTResource.com NEWS UPDATE Valtim, a multichannel marketing and fulfllment provider, has expanded its portfolio and increased their digital printing efciency by implementing the InfoPrint 5000 GP continu- ous feed inkjet print platform. Since installing it, Valtim has achieved higher throughput on diverse papers, shortened their service level agreement (SLA) run time by up to two weeks and integrated real-time, personalized messaging. Valtim has 40 customers and will produce nearly 20 mil- lion mailings and ship 175,000 pick and pack orders this year. The company provides a wide range of integrated services including creative services, product and literature fulfllment, interactive media and variable data printing. Valtim selected the InfoPrint 5000 for its fexibility and ability to enable new customized applications that were not possible with their previous installation. The InfoPrint 5000 platform empow- ered Valtim to transition to a white paper factory, more ef- fciently producing variable data and personalized communi- cations on a wider variety of media. "Ricoh is the greatest investment the company has made. With their commitment to training and services, they're integrated into our team, so they're part of the Valtim family now," said David Baldtree, director of operations at Valtim. "We're always striving to understand and manage a customer's message and deliver it in as many ways as possible through multichannel media. With the InfoPrint 5000, we now have the technology to help spread our customers' messages even further." In addition to the InfoPrint 5000, Ricoh also provides Valtim with integrated sales support training and service support. "Valtim's commitment to deliver engaging and high-quality services to their customers and end users made the InfoPrint 5000 GP a perfect tool in improving their print operations, and ultimately expanding the applications they're able to ofer," said Andre Brazeau, vice president, Production Print Solutions, Ricoh Americas Corporation. "Our relationship with Valtim was based on more than simply selling hardware. We valued the opportunity to work with their team to help suc- cessfully transition to inkjet and explore and capitalize on the opportunities that the InfoPrint 5000 has opened for them." MyPRINTResource.com/10007712 Bradford & Bigelow Installs Second Screen Truepress Jet520 in Less Than a Year Bradford & Bigelow (B&B;) has been in the book printing business long enough to know what its customers want, need and value most. Very simply, they require quality, speed, competitive pricing and no excuses. These factors led to the creation of a solution built around both a conventional printing and binding platform and a high- speed digital workfow. The most recent acquisition that directly serves customer demands for shorter-run color books is the Screen Truepress Jet520. Slated for installation in early Octo- ber, the full-color inkjet web press is identical to the Truepress Jet520 that went into production last January. "Our frst Truepress Jet520 has given us the burst capacity to meet and exceed the most demanding client schedules. It has made our Timson web-ofset presses more productive as well by allowing us to shift smaller color jobs to the inkjet platform. With a second Truepress coming online, B&B; will take quality and service to the next level," said John Galligan, CEO. Under Galligan's leadership, Bradford & Bigelow has grown from a four-person shop in South Boston to one of North America's top specialty printers. Bradford & Bigelow currently occupies a 100,000 sqft facility in Newburyport, MA. "Right out of the gate, the Truepress Jet520 exceeded every metric we established: print quality, uptime, head life, low en- ergy consumption, a simple paper path with minimal waste and excellent ink mileage," said Rick Dunn, executive vice president. "The lower materials costs and energy savings are helping B&B;'s bottom line every day." Increased capacity, speed, backup, redundancy and excellent support from Screen were key factors in Bradford & Bigelow's investment decision. "The Truepress Jet520 has been a tremendous addition to our platform, averaging more than 20 million impressions per month," Dunn said. "The press tends to fll up quickly from jobs shifted over from our Timson ZMR presses, as well as from new revenue streams. It is so productive and efcient that it was an easy decision to purchase the second press." The investment in digital inkjet technology contributes sig- nifcantly to Bradford & Bigelow's goal of providing the most environmentally friendly print platform in North America. "At Bradford & Bigelow, 'environmentally friendly' is an ev- eryday practice, not just a slogan," Galligan said. "The Truepress Jet520 does not need the costly and wasteful dryers that other pigment ink-based machines require. You can't claim to be envi- ronmentally friendly and run these massive ovens 24/7."
