The five-color, 36-inch, fully auto- mated sheetfed press is the first North American installation fea- turing LED-UV curing incorporated by the manufacturer. Ryobi and Panasonic jointly developed the new technology. "To say this press delivers us a new competitive advantage is really an understatement," explained Imprimerie Reflet co-own- er Pierre Methot, who founded the 20-employee shop in 1995 with Real Daviau. "We believe this new Ryobi press redefines the economics of offset printing. It opens up lucrative new markets and eliminates many of the traditional pain points and costs associated with producing high-quality print." The press was sold by KBR Graphics Canada of Montreal and installed last December. MyPRINTResource.com/11319733 RR Donnelley to Acquire Translation Technology Solutions Provider MultiCorpora R. R. MyPRINTResource.com/ 10114570 Quad/Graphics to Expand East Coast Commingling Operations Quad/Graphics, Inc. is strengthening its direct marketing plat- form with a multimillion-dollar expansion of its East Coast com- mingling center in Westampton, NJ. The expansion includes six new letter sorters housed in a new space that will enhance cli- ents' postal savings opportunities and mail delivery efficiencies. "Given the recent exigent postal rate increase, marketers are more pressured than ever to find solutions to offset their total cost of production and distribution without having to cut into important sales and revenue-generation activities such as pros- pecting," said Steve Jaeger, president of direct marketing for Quad/Graphics. MyPRINTResource.com/ 10113705 Newspaper Pressroom Upgrades at Gannett Gannett Publishing Services is upgrading and retrofitting press control systems on its manroland web systems equipment at two of its newspaper production facilities: The Indianapolis Star has five Geoman presses, and the Daily Advertiser, Lafayette, LA, is equipped with two Uniset mod- els presses. The project has begun at both plants, with planning to ensure daily production will not be interrupted. The upgrade includes a modernization of the Pecom Controls, parts of the drive controls and I/O hardware which will guarantee increased uptime due to better parts availability, but also increased productivity and efficiency. The upgrade also leads to improved online diagnostics possibilities via the automatic diagnostic server system. MyPRINTResource.com/ 11320519 1st Komori System 38D Web Press in North America Family-owned Cummings Printing, Hooksett, NH, has installed North America's first fully automated, 32-page Komori System 38D web-offset press. Celebrating its 100th year in business, the full-service publication printer has built a solid reputation for competitive pricing, flexible scheduling, and personal service. Meeting the challenge to speed turnaround time and reduce costs to meet market demands, Cummings chose the System 38D to gain a competitive edge in both pricing and efficiency. "When we looked for a press that would allow us to double our output and produce work faster with less waste and less labor, the Komori System 38D was the only one that fit the bill for a business like ours," said president Jack Cummings. "It is an abso- lute game-changer and will move us way ahead of competitors using 16-page presses." MyPRINTResource.com/ 11321471 QP_7-10_0414 PrintingNews.indd 7 3/18/14 3:40 PM
