Sometimes Things
Work Just Right
Labor Day is not until next month, but I'm enjoying
the fruits of my labor early. By Karen Lowery Hall
certainly hope that you enjoy reading this issue of Quick Printing as much
as I have enjoyed putting it together. Like most editors, I'm picky and a
bit of a perfectionist. So when I finally get my hands on a copy of the
final product there is usually at least one thing that I wish I could go
back and tweak—one little thing that I should have done better. I don't
believe that will be a problem this month.
Start with the Binding Industries Association Product of Excellence Awards
on page 14. Look closely at those photos and you'll see that this is some of
the most impressive postpress work that you're ever likely to run into. And
you know what? I'll bet you do some pretty amazing work in your company,
too. When was the last time you entered a printing contest? I know that the
deadline is still open for NAQP's Print Excellence Awards. Just sayin'É
Of course, after you've read "Automation is Vital to Finishing Success" on
page 21, you'll see that one of the things that makes beautiful bindery work
possible is the increasing sophistication
of the equipment printers have access to
these days.
Once you are fully informed about the
back of the shop, flip over to page 16 and
catch up on some expert advice about how
to bring superior design to every print job,
from start to finish. The biggest element in
any design project is making sure you have
clear and concise communication between
the customer and the people producing the
job. I'm pretty sure you already knew that,
but it never hurts to to pick up some tips.
Of course, our regular columnists are
brimming over with good advice, as always. You'll find practical, use-it-today
information about cloud-based software subscriptions, how to deal with RFQs
and RFPs, how to increase profitability, and keeping current on postal IMb
compliance. Wonder what the proposed merger between NAPL and AMSP
(the former mailing association) might mean to members? Check out my
interview with NAPL leader Joe Truncale on page 24.
I feel like this is the part where I should say, "But wait! There's more!"
because there is. Head on over to MyPRINTResource.com and learn about
what it takes to get into the lucrative real estate market. Find out what the real
role of a sales manager should be, and pick up seven things you should know
before hiring a consultant. Go ahead, enjoy it. I did. ◗◗

have that, they will
come back."
